New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Thursday, paved way for Delhi’s Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIP) to admit students to its MBA courses from the national level entrance test—the common aptitude test (CAT)—as the top court stayed Delhi high court’s two orders mandating the university to conduct its own common entrance test (CET).

Staying the operation of April 12 and May 29, 2019, by order of the Delhi high court, the vacation bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Ajay Rastogi issued notice to the respondent Self Financing Educational Institutions Association (SFEIA).

The notice is returnable on July 9. The notice to SFEIA was accepted by counsel Rahul Shyam Bhandari. SFEIA was present as a caveator.

Appearing for the IP University, senior counsel Rakesh Khanna recalled that in May the top court’s vacation bench had similarly allowed the university to admit students for the academic year 2019-2020 on the basis of CLAT score.

He told the court that in the wake of the May 29 order of the high court, GGSIP University was left with just one day to conduct the CET as the cut-off for the entrance test as stipulated by the top court was May 31.
