New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman was killed and another injured after they were hit by a car in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar on Wednesday.

The driver of the car has been arrested, the police said.

Pooja (21) and Kamlesh (32) were doing dishes in front of an under-construction building in the morning when the car, driven by Krishna (25), hit the two.

The women were rushed to a hospital where Pooja was declared brought dead. Kamlesh was referred to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital since her condition was serious, the police said.

The accused, who used to wash the car, decided to go for a drive in the vehicle. Since he did not know how to drive, he pressed the accelerator, instead of applying the brakes, they added.

Police are trying to ascertain if the accused had a valid driving licence as no such document was found on his possession.

Pooja and Kamlesh were staying in the under construction building with their families.
