New Delhi: Refuting the allegations of rivals blaming BJP for the sealing drive carried out in the last one and half years, the BJP candidate from New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, Meenakshi Lekhi, said that they (Congress and Aam Aadmi Party) have destroyed Delhi and had they done proper planning and implemented it, the issue of sealing would not have arisen.

Seeking re-election from New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, Ms Lekhi told this newspaper that the urban development ministry under the BJP government at the Centre amended the then Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) to stall sealing and placed it before the Supreme Court, where the matter is pending.

“An affidavit has been filed in the Supreme Court with a roadmap to remove the anomalies in Delhi’s master plan. It’s the BJP government that extended floor area ratio (FAR) for the shop-cum-residence plots and complexes to bring it at par with residential plots to provide relief to traders facing the threat of sealing,” she said.

The 52-year-old lawyer, Ms Lekhi, is pitted in a triangular contest against Congress’ Ajay Maken, a two-time MP and former Union minister, and AAP’s Brijesh Goyal, a first-timer.

Ms Lekhi pointed out that she is not facing any challenge from her rivals.

“There is no challenge for me and this time electorate will elect me with a bigger margin. AAP and Congress are fighting to secure number two positions. My opponents are raising issues, which are non issues. They have nothing to promise to the people,” Ms Lekhi added.

Ms Lekhi asserted that the work done in the last five year in New Delhi will ensure her re-election. She claimed that she brought the concept of open gyms in the country, which is being emulated by everyone now.

“Have a look at my report card; it is at par with the best MPs of the country. I am saying this with a lot of pride. I have worked a lot to improve the water situation in my constituency, but a lot of work needs to be done. I have got `900 crore sanctioned from the Centre for proper supply of water,” she said.

“However, the Delhi government failed to utilise it properly to strengthen the water supply in the national capital,” she added.
