1,185 cases of dengue recorded till September 2

New Delhi: The number of dengue cases reported in the capital has crossed the 1,000 mark, with 240 cases being recorded in the past one week.

Out of 1,185 cases have been recorded in Delhi till September 2, at least 604 cases were reported from residents belonging to Delhi and the remaining from patients who have come for treatment from other states.

Fewer malaria and chikungunya cases were reported in the past week. While 51 fresh cases of malaria and 53 cases of chikungunya were reported in the city, taking the total to 524 and 392, respectively. Of the total number of cases, 230 and 238 respectively were reported from residents of Delhi.

It is the sudden rise in the number of dengue cases in the past few weeks, along with swine flu that is worrying the health authorities.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently asked the schools to use morning assemblies to fight dengue.

Mr Kejriwal had also said that around 26 lakh children studying in various government and private schools in the cityn will soon be trained to check mosquito breeding in their homes and neighbourhoods to fight the dengue and chikungunya menace. The season for vector-borne diseases kicked off in mid- July and continues till November.
