Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Alka Lamba

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Alka Lamba, who had earlier announced that she would quit the party in 2020, met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, triggering a buzz that the 43-year-old lawmaker may go back to her parent party.

It is reliably learnt that Ms Lamba was also in touch with Delhi BJP leaders. But Delhi BJP general secretary (organisation) Siddharthan is said to have expressed his reluctance over inducting her into the party fold.

Ms Lamba started her political journey as a student leader way back in 1994. She was appointed as the general secretary of the All India Mahila Congress in 2002. She unsuccessfully contested the Delhi Assembly elections from the Moti Nagar constituency against senior BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana in 2003.

Ms Lamba quit the Congress in December 2014 to join AAP. She won from the Chandni Chowk Assembly constituency in 2015 by defeating her nearest rival, Suman Kumar Gupta of the BJP.

In the recent past, Ms Lamba has openly spoken against AAP. Last month, she had said that she will resign from the party. But the leader is yet to officially submit her resignation to the party even as senior leaders in the AAP were ready to accept it. At the time, Ms Lamba had said that she would contest the elections as an independent candidate.
