Special train to Curb chikungunya

New Delhi: To contain the threat of dengue and chikungunya, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), in a joint initiative with the Delhi Division of Northern Railway, flagged off a ‘Mosquito Terminator’ train on on Friday. The special train eliminate mosquitoes in one go and sprays insecticide on both sides of rail tracks within 50 to 60 metre area. SDMC mayor Narendera Chawla and divisional railway manager R.N. Singh jointly flagged off a train from New Delhi Railway Station.

In order to substantially mitigate the threat of dengue and chikungunya in 50 to 60 meter area of the railway tracks, insecticide spray will be done from a power sprayers mounted on a truck placed over the train. The SDMC has provided a huge power sprayer and insecticide for spray in adequate quantity. Chairperson, SDMC standing committee Shikha Rai and SDMC commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel were also present on the occasion. “Under the joint initiative, the insecticide will be sprayed right from 7 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm. This will not only eliminate larvae but also neutralize mosquitoes,” said Mr Chawla.
