New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Swati Maliwal, has written a letter to the President of India demanding streamlining of the judicial process to make the hanging of Nirbhaya rapists time-bound.
The letter has come in wake of news reports that the convicts in Nirbhaya rape case are planning to file a curative petition. Ms Maliwal has asked the President to direct the Union government to immediately introduce an ordinance in the country that ensures that in the cases of rape the trial be completed within three months of the crime and all appeals, review petitions, and curative petitions be disposed within the next three months, thus guaranteeing justice within six months.
In her letter, Ms Maliwal has said that Delhi is disgraced after being tagged as the “rape capital” of the world.
Ms Maliwal contended that on an average three minor girls become victims of sexual assault everyday in Delhi.
