Not to levy parking fee at hospitals, malls: SDMC

New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Tuesday said that it still stands by an earlier decision prohibiting of parking fee in pribvate hospitals and malls. 

Leader of House in SDMC Shikha Rai said, “We are committed to provide free parking in hospitals and other places and will take an appropriate action in this regard”.

According to Ms Rai, it is not appropriate to levy parking fee from general public and patients in hospitals. “It is not all justified to burden the patients/family members to levy parking fee in the hospitals,” added Ms Rai.

While referring to a PIL filed in the Delhi high court, Ms Rai made it clear that the corporation will take appropriate action as per rules against those responsible for charging parking fee in the hospitals. 

“The SDMC standing committee have number of times reiterated that levy of parking fee in hospitals and other places amount to violation of the SDMC’s orders,” she said.

The SDMC will ensure that patients and others visiting the hospitals should not be charged parking fee. We assure that the order of free parking in the hospitals and malls will be implemented. Levying maintenance fees is in violation of SDMC’s orders, she added. Ms Rai said, “The decision not to charge any parking fee in hospitals was taken as per the majority opinion of the House.”
