Tumpa Barman 21, who is from West Bengal, became e-bike rider after completing her senior secondary education to support the financial needs of her family and with this thought in mind she took a job with ‘Pillion’ as a lady rider.

New Delhi: In the field of bike riding, which is considered to be a male dominated area, a young girl in her early 20’s proved herself by becoming Delhi’s first women e-bike driver.

Tumpa Barman 21, who is from West Bengal, became e-bike rider after completing her senior secondary education to support the financial needs of her family and with this thought in mind she took a job with ‘Pillion’ as a lady rider, where she has to pick and drop female passengers on the e-bike taxi from eight in the morning till six in the evening. Tumpa said that, “she had full faith in herself and confidence has increased significantly after getting the job in a field where it is said to be ruled and controlled by men,” on being asked about how it feels to be the first woman e bike taxi driver.

Pillion runs 60 e bike taxi which runs on electric battery powered motor and that too on cheaper rates. The organisation currently operates only in a radius of five km in Karol Bagh and Jhandewalan area. “This company’s agenda is to make the lives of people easy with less pollution, students, working peoples and other citizens use this service accordingly,” said Karan Chaddha, founder Pillion organisation.
