Gone are the days when dating was a means of finding a suitable partner. Going out for dinner, holding hands, watching the sunset entailed a date night. As times progressed, it made way for ‘booty calls’; a call made in the middle of the night to your partner to satisfy your physical pleasures. A new phenomenon, ‘foodie call’ is now emerging, reported News18.
An interesting survey revealed that nearly one in four women hit up a guy to go on a date just for the sake of a free meal. The woman usually goes out on a date with someone she is not romantically interested in. The study showed that 23 to33 per cent women respondents of an online study admitted to have engaged in a ‘foodie call’. Researchers from Azusa Pacific University and University of California-Merced found that women who displayed the traits of psychopathy, Machiavellianism, narcissism were more likely to engage in a ‘foodie call’ and find it socially acceptable.
"Several dark traits have been linked to deceptive and exploitative behaviour in romantic relationships, such as one-night stands, faking an orgasm, or sending unsolicited sexual pictures," said Brian Collisson of Azusa Pacific University.
The first study was conducted on 820 women who said that they find ‘foodie calls’ acceptable. This is in comparison to other women who do not display the ‘dark triad’ of personality traits, who said that these kind of dates were moderately to extremely unacceptable.
The second study, conducted on 357 heterosexual women found that 33 per cent had engaged in such kind of a relationship. The researchers also noted that this kind of toxic relationship could be perpetrated by all genders, and not just women.
