There are plenty of fun and special ways to spend Valentine's Day, even on a budget.

You can't get her that diamond pendant. You can't afford the watch he wants. You may even be strapped for cash to buy a couple of flowers to show your love.

But February 14 is more than just showering your loved one with expensive gifts and dates. It's a day dedicated to express how you feel and you don't need wards of cash to do it.

So whether you are on a budget or want to keep this year simple, here are a few ways to spend the day with your partner without breaking the bank.

1. Have a picnic

A couple of sandwiches, some fruit and juice are all you need to enjoy a nice picnic in a park. Enjoy nature, the sunshine and good conversation with your loved one.

2. Movie night

If you are the kind of couple who like being indoor, then get cozy on the couch with a playlist of movies you both enjoy. Popcorn and a bottle of wine are perfect to make the experience that more enjoyable.

3. Have a game night

If you are into board games or even games at an arcade, why not bring out the children in you and get to play.

4. Coffee date

Sit at a nice cafe with your partner. Enjoy the coffee, maybe a slice of cake and the company of your loved one.

5. Explore street food together

Bistros and candle light dinners are fine and all, but getting a taste of street food from a delicious chilli toasted sandwich to a kulfi ice cream can be just as delightful. It's cheap, filling and most of all your breaking bread with the one you want to be with on that special day.

6.  Recreate your first date

When you are just getting to know someone, you may start out with a drink or two. Or maybe you sat by the seaside talking endlessly. Take your partner back in time to recreate that exciting time. It will definitely be more special that jewellery.
