A shocking and sad video is doing the rounds on social media where a dog owner has filmed the heartbreaking moment her greyhound trembled on the floor in terror as fireworks were let off outside.

The owner, Fiona MacFarlane recorded her ten-year-old greyhound Charlie laying on his side, shaking and drooling to raise awareness about the devastating effects fireworks have on our pets.

According to reports the poor dog spent more than an hour quivering on the ground at home in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

MacFarlane posted the clip on social media with the caption, “We go through this every year and nothing helps stop the reaction. I wish people would keep them until November 5 and they were licenced for organised displays only.”

The footage has been viewed more than 800,000 times since it was posted on Sunday night.

The 30-second video shows Charlie trembling on the ground while his owner, who has owned him for six years, pets him and offers him a blanket in an effort to comfort her pet.

In her Facebook post, Ms MacFarlane said, 'This is 36 seconds out of, so far one hour, of this. On the back of two big bomb-like explosions in Burnbank, Hamilton tonight.

Ms MacFarlane has tried prescribed drugs, earmuffs, aromatherapy and CDs to try and ease Charlie's fear of fireworks, but to no avail.
