A homeless man in Floridablanca, Colombia discovered a newborn baby girl in a rubbish bin.

The abandoned baby was covered in ants crawling all over her, according to Colombian media.

The man, who rescued the baby, immediately contacted the police.

When the cops arrived to the scene, they rushed her Floridablanca Hospital. There doctors treated her for many bites and wounds on her back. Her umbilical cord was also attached.

Doctors said revealed she only weighs 2.2kg and is recovering after contracting hypothermia, the Metro reported.

The police are trying to locate the child's mother.
