Guatemalan French roast. Columbian Brew. Arabica Coffee. If you’re one of those people who’s crazy about coffee, you’d probably be able to identify exotic coffee brands just by their aroma. And the world may call you a hyper and crazy person, but we have good news for you. Robert Schmerling, MD, has pointed out that caffeine is known to relieve pain, but the effect so far has been restricted to sleep-deprived mice. Humans might have to wait a little longer.

But admit it, most of us have personally experienced the miraculous effect coffee has on pain management. When you’re anxious, the intoxicating aroma of roasted coffee works as an instant calming agent. Mind you, it’s just coffee we’re talking about. Other caffeinated beverages like tea might not have the same effect.

Dr Ray Peat, PhD physiologist and health expert said, “Our scientific community talks about coffee like it’s a drug, when actually it’s an adaptogenic nutrient. The caffeine in coffee mimics anti-stress hormones like progresterone, scavenges free radicals, and increases the efficiency of fuel consumption in the body.”

He said that the negative effects of coffee arise only when the intake of caffeine is excessive. “Adequate nutrition is essential,” he said, “because coffee increases the consumption of glucose in the bloodstream. So, if you’re not drinking it with carbohydrates or fat — either in the form of a meal or as cream and sugar— that’s when you start feeling shaky.”

If meditation and breathing don’t really work well when you’re feeling super stressed, all you have to do is grab some coffee for instant relief. But there are a few things to keep in mind:

Make sure your glucose or sugar intake is high. So go for some cream or sugar, and have a good meal that’ll give you plenty of energy.

Try opting for organic coffee. They have fewer toxins and are way healthier than the non-organic versions which are grown using pesticides.

Coffee can be dehydrating, so make sure you gulp down enough H2O every day.

So, coffee is clearly that magical nectar when it comes to relieving pain. If you’re a fitness lover, you now know that you can binge on caffeine for managing pain. Go ahead; make yourself a piping hot cup of your favourite substance right away!
