Celebratory occasions call for special drinks. And while wines and champagnes have been around forever, here’s one that’s eye-catching as well. Auriga, India’s first sparkling wine with 24-carat gold flakes was launched this month in Mumbai.
The sparkling drink was launched to celebrate 25 years of wine-making by Grover Zampa Vineyards in the country. The new gold edition is crafted for special ceremonies, since it adds a touch of extravagance to the event. The gently aged wine comes with a dusting of golden straw hues.
According to the makers, the wine has a fresh aroma, revealing hints of citrus and flowers. The palate is also said to be intense, with a pleasant sensation of fruit and creaminess. The notes extend to a long finish, with hints of brioche and dried apricot embodied in the sparkling wine.
The collectable edition of Auriga is best served as an apertif, and is made of a Chenin Blanc grape variety.
