A simple kurti outfit can be jazzed up with a pair of jutti with pompoms or a printed jutti.

Handcrafted juttis with gota work, kundan work, pearl and sequins are the best for sangeet and mehendi ceremonies where you are always on your toes.

Juttis are one of the best contributions to ethnic fashion from Punjab. These footwear have been adding character to outfits of men, women and kids through centuries, balancing fashion and comfort with timeless elegance.

Though juttis have always been part of most of our ethnic wardrobe, it is gaining more appreciation in recent times with several exclusive brands cropping up with their own unique versions of the humble jutti. Traditionally made of leather, the ‘upper’ (part that covers the foot) of the jutti can be made of, or covered with silk, brocade or cottons, embellished with little trinkets, pompoms, ghungroos and embroidery.

Here are three ways one can style jutties this summer.

Ethnic — It goes without saying that juttis are the perfect choice for those women who prefer flats with ethnic wear. They can be worn with all kinds of sarees; silk or brocade ones for silk sarees, one with ghungroo or trinkets for flowy chiffons, indigo ones for linen or cotton sarees and printed ones can be worn with plain sarees or ones with part print.

A simple kurti outfit can be jazzed up with a pair of jutti with pompoms or a printed jutti. And the same pair can go with your favourite denims and short kurti!

For those who attend a lot of weddings and functions, gold and silver juttis are wardrobe staples. Handcrafted juttis with gota work, kundan work, pearl and sequins are the best for sangeet and mehendi ceremonies where you are always on your toes. For all the to-be brides, designers are now collaborating with jutti brands for customised pairs.

Fusion — Fusion wear, especially cotton, is perfect for Indian summers. Kalamkari, ikat and indigo work very well with juttis due to the earthy and eco-friendly vibes they give out.

Wear jutties with Indian cotton dresses or this season’s favourite—cotton pants. You can style them with oversized tops, crop top or tanks!

Fusion skirts made of the ethnic fabrics, but western silhouettes are another area where one can flaunt juttis. For a formal look, wear a solid shirt or wrap top and casual look can be achieved by wearing slogan tees or casual tops.

Western — Those who aren’t afraid to bend the rules can choose plain, single coloured leather juttis with work wear dresses and skirts. You can also team elegant printed juttis with summer dresses, denim dresses, jumpsuits and jeans. These can also be worn with solid dresses and tops to look classy and feminine.
