The colour of the year speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent.

The most anticipated annual fashion verdict is out. The Pantone colour of 2017 is Greenery, a significant departure from last year’s pretty pastel hues. The colours of nature make fashion come to life as it seeks to revive, restore, and renew. This year watch out for the zesty yellow-green shade illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors. Greenery evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens flourish. City’s fashion experts give a lowdown on how you can carry off the colour in style and look like an eco-chic.

Greenery was prominent on the runways, walking in various forms at Gucci, Prada, Kenzo, Balenciaga, Michael Kors, Zac Posen, and Cynthia Rowley. It is a refreshing change and is a fabulous versatile trans-seasonal hue as it lends itself to many colour combinations. Designer Susan Fernandes loves the colour and likes to wear it often. “Lime green is my favourite colour for summer. I believe the colour you wear really sets off the tone for the day- fresh bright and new.” You can pair greens with browns, sandy and earthy hues.

Soon we will see the bright green splashed across on runways as various designers start working with the hue. City based designer Anjali Sharma who has showcased her designs on international runways, opines, “The world right now is hoping for a new start and a better society with a fresh mindset and the greens visually signify that! You can pair green with gold. I personally love the colour and I’m using a lot of green in stunning luxe Indian traditional wear too, predominantly circling around the Jade and the Chartreuse!”

Many eco-conscious fashion celebrities like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Diane Kruger, Kendall Jenner, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and many others are endorsing the colour. The colour beckons you to feel in sync with nature. A cross between lime and peridot, greenery packs a punch and is a colourful addition to your everyday stack. Try this playful shade either in playful prints or go monochromatic and wear green head to toe, or better still infuse your dress with touches of greenery. Designer Riya Kodali adds, “It’s scientifically established that the most soothing colour to the eye is green and adding this colour will not only brighten up your life, but will sprinkle happiness and shine all around you. You can just about wear the colour any time of the day and for any occasion. You can even add a tinge of green to your accessories and look like a diva.”
