Denim is back with a boom, and this time the trend is about wearing denim on denim!

The model is seen sporting a dual tone denim top and pant.

We all have that one pair of denim pants/shorts or skirts that comes to our rescue when we look for comfort but not compromising on style. Denim look trendy even without trying. Designers feel that fashion is a never ending circle. Over the years, denims have introduced in unfathomable ways. But the best would be when denim was paired with denim. In the past we have seen actresses like Kangana Ranaut, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Anne Hathway experiment with this trend in their own fun and unique ways. This season people are paring the ever classic denim pants or skirts with denim tops and jackets.

Comfort, trendy and classic are a few words that have always been used to describe denim pants. Designer Ranjeetha Sundar says, “Denims have never been out of fashion. they have been on track since it was introduced. The thing with denims no matter what you pair it with, it has the ability to shine. From college students to professionals, denim is suitable for everyone.” The denim on denim trend can be a little tricky. Designer Shriya Joshi adds, “Denim on denim is a tricky beast. When done correctly, it looks amazingly but one minor misstep and you can look like a fashion disaster.” Sometimes it is quite easy to go overboard with denims. She further adds, “Break your look down by wearing a white tee or a blue button down. An embellished denim jacket adds to the texture of your outfit. A colourful patterned turtle neck also does the trick to change up the matching look. A plaid jacket with striped shoe can add interest to your denim look.” For those who though denim is extremely western to be worn with anything desi, they are in for a surprise. Designer Prachita Devi suggests, “Since the wedding season is here to stay why not play with the outfit? have some fun this wedding season by pairing a traditional saree with a denim crop top.” Experimenting with denim is not something new. Now denims embellished with stones and pearls have arrived. “A great party look will be to pair these embellished denim pants with blingy tank top or even an embellished jackets. The glitter factor can be added in the form of accessories like belts, shawls etc.”

While working this trend it is important to let the outfit speak for itself. Over accessorising it never a good thing. “A simple pair of hoops, choker and the hair tied into a high pony will be the best way to accessorise. “ suggests Prachita. Denim on denim is already quite a heavy look. “Pairing denims with denim  accessorises is a strict no. It can be anything - bags, shoes, belts etc.” This one trend that you don’t have to be afraid of. “Distress jeans is a - definite yes. Ripped denim jeans or shorts just lends itself very well for the denim on denim look so don’t be afraid to rip off. Don’t use accessories like cowboy hats, boho ties. You don’t want to end up looking like a caricature. Don’t be afraid to elevate you outfit with luxe-looking items such as statement heels, a tuxedo blazer, or red lips.” suggests Shriya.
