Strike it down

This is with reference to Anil Dharker’s article, Sedition politics (Sept. 7). Laws do not exist in a vacuum. More than half a century has passed since the Supreme Court clarified the bounds of “sedition” in its 1962 judgment. However, the wording of the section remains what the British had drafted and it is sufficiently wide to take within its ambit anyone who mocks the authority of the state. The sensible course of action would be to strike down this section as unconstitutional.
