While the Indian government may credit Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making Pakistan’s crucial allies, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, talk tough on state-sponsored terror, the real reason behind the two states’ unhappiness with Pakistan is the latter’s refusal to deploy its Army in a Saudi-led joint military campaign — Operation Decisive Storm — in Yemen in 2015. It is important that we understand diplomatic leverage in a larger context instead of blindly praising the “supreme leader”.
