The tragedy in Kolkata has raised questions not only about the poor quality of materials used and the absence of monitoring, but also faulty bridge design — a problem with most government projects. There must be a thorough inquiry into the bridge collapse and those responsible for the poor construction should be prosecuted. Politicians should also be taught a lesson in the upcoming Assembly elections.
