Police excesses

Manipur Police head constable Thounaojam Herojit Singh’s admission that Sanjit Meitei, a suspected militant, gunned down in 2009, was unarmed at the time of killing, confirms that Meiti was killed in a fake encounter. After misleading the CBI for six years, Mr Singh confessed to the killing because he felt “scared” for his life and “no longer have faith in the system”. The citizens of the Northeast clearly have no reason to trust the state police.
