Play Wani down

By splashing the news of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani’s death all across the news media we are only glorifying terrorism. A couple of days ago, a news daily carried a story on a fresh crop of terrorists — meritorious, convent-going students — who dropped out of school to pick up the gun. Wani was the poster boy for this crop, goading them via social media and sprouting legends in his name that even security forces attest to. We should not glorify Wani in this way, lest we face our own replay of Dhaka’s Gulshan episode.
