It is sad that labour day, observed every year around the world on May 1, has been reduced to mere tokenism. There is much talk about the exploitation of labour across the world in both the organised and unorganised sectors. But there is no appellate authority for workers’ grievances and trade unionism has become a thing of the past. As Karl Marx says, “Workers of the world unite!” Let’s retrieve the significance of May Day.
