The Puttingal temple fire in Kerala’s Kollam district, that has claimed more than 100 lives, is a case of sheer negligence. When there is a district-level ban on pyrotechnics at temples why were temporary permits given for the fireworks late in the night Also, what were the temple authorities thinking by storing crackers so near to the crowd This is a clear case of culpable homicide. Traditions cannot be upheld at the cost of people’s lives.
