Ignoring heroes

Our apathy towards Paralympics 2016 and Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Singh Bhati — the two Paralympians who brought India a medal each — is appalling. Unlike the Olympics that was widely covered, the Rio Paralympics did not have any television coverage in India as it failed to attract any national broadcasters. Our Paralympians have done us proud but we chose to ignore them and bury their efforts. All they wanted was encouragement, but we have let them down.
