The popular perception is that government employees get good salaries for doing nothing and any increase in their remuneration is a drain on taxpayers. This is wrong. While the media highlights cases of graft and delay in government offices, citizens should realise that there is still a system in place and no entity, corporate or government, can guarantee 100 per cent delivery of services. It’s good that the government is finally implementing the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations. Never mind whether it’s a political gimmick.
