In a heartbreaking case of racism, a Manipuri woman was asked about her nationality by an official at Delhi’s IGI airport. This shows how distorted our notions of being Indian are. To prove her Indianness, she was apparently asked the number of states in India. This is not surprising considering how badly people from the Northeast have been treated in the past. This incident distorts the image of our country and shows our ignorance about India’s ethnic diversity.
