Union minister of state for skill development Rajiv Pratap Rudy’s decision to include English as a part of basic skills in India’s skill development programme is a step in the right direction. It is true that English boosts employability by 40 per cent and is one of the necessities for students today as it is now a global language. While the RSS’ emphasis on promoting Indian languages is understandable in line with its ideology, culture cannot be sustained at the cost of livelihood.
