Define gau raksha

In response to your editorial, PM speaks out, but govt has to act too (August 9), I would like to state that it is sad that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement, that most of the self-styled “gau rakshaks” were “anti-social elements” hiding behind the mask of cow protection, has been objected to by gau rakshak organisations. While the Centre should press the states for strict action against self-styled gau rakshaks, genuine gau rakshak organisations must also disown and act against those bringing a bad name to their work. Vigilantism, violence and caste abuse in the name of cow protection is simply not acceptable.
