The claim
in the PTI news item “Gadnayak new NGMA Director” published in your newspaper on August 25 that the former NGMA director (meaning myself) “retired amid allegations of irregularities” is false and wholly incorrect. I would like to inform you that I had retired on attaining the age of superannuation, which should have been verified by the reporter before filing his report.
The PIL referred to in the report was filed in the Delhi high court on June 1 and dismissed on June 2. A revised PIL was brought before the vacation bench on June 29 and heard on July 13. That has also been dismissed after a status report was filed on behalf of the Union of India. I am writing this to set the record straight for your readers. These kind of reports create unnecessary confusion and are best avoided. Rajeev Lochan Former director, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi
