Bengal renaming

With reference to the report Mamata Banerjee set to drop West from West Bengal (Aug. 3), at the time of Partition, the province of Bengal was divided. The western part was named West Bengal while the eastern part became East Pakistan. Even then there was no point in continuing with the prefix “West” for Bengal as there was no “East” Bengal. Ms Banerjee’s decision to drop “West” from West Bengal and for the state to be known as Bengal in English and Bangla or Banga in Hindi or Bengali sets right a wrong carried over for too long.
