After storming back to power with a thumping majority, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday thanked the people of the state for renewing their mandate. “We want to thank the people of Bengal. They are the pillars of democracy. We contested this election alone. The Opposition had joined hands against us but the people have given us a huge victory,” she said.

After her victory, Ms Mamata Banerjee declared, “We have ideological differences with the BJP but we will always support them on issues that are beneficial to the people. We will support.” She accused the Opposition of spinning a “web of lies” to grab power. “The allegations of corruption were baseless Opposition propaganda with the help of a section of media,” she said.
