The Western Railway (WR) launched the ‘Clean my coach’ initiative on Friday in 22 trains leaving from Mumbai to various destinations. Commuters can send an SMS that will be charged at Rs 3 while travelling on passenger trains.

The initiative was inaugurated by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu, who said in his speech before cutting the ribbon digitally from Delhi, that it was part of PM Narendra Modi’s vision of a digital India. “We already have SMS and Twitter for passengers to lodge their complaints. Right now these operations are being operated in 16 zones, but we will eventually run them on a integrated platform,” he said.

Under the ‘Clean my coach’ initiative, a commuter can send CLEAN

and the PNR number to 58888, after which a person has to come within 30 minutes and clean up the coach the passenger is travelling in.

The initiative was launched on Central Railway (CR) in February last year in 45 trains departing from CST and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). A senior railway officer from CR said, “We receive around 750 complaints from the clean my coach campaign and we solve almost 90 per cent of them,” he said.
