Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued summons to former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to appear before it on January 4 in connection with the high treason case against former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

FIA sources confirmed that Shaukat Aziz had been summoned to record his statement in the case. Head of the FIA’s joint investigation team Wajid Zia had written a letter to the former Premier in this regard. Officials said Shaukat Aziz has confirmed to FIA director Maqsoodul Hassan that he has received the letter.

Meanwhile, it was reported Mr Musharraf had sought apology for his role in the operation that led to the death of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Bugti’s son, Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti claimed that Pervez Musharraf sent an apology through his lawyer and urged him to accept the killing of Akbar Bugti as “God’s will”.

“Our stance is clear — We won’t accept anyone’s apology regarding Nawab Bugti’s murder,” Mr Jamil Bugti said.

“During hearing (in a Quetta court) Musharraf’s lawyer asked me to meet him personally, but I refused and told him to discuss all issues before the court,” he added.

Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed along with his 26 comrades during an operation in the mountains of Dera Bugti in August, 2006.

Talking to the media after the hearing Akhtar Hussain, the lawyer of Mr Musharraf, said, “For the prosperity of people of Balochistan, we should accept the incident (of Akbar Bugti’s killing) as a tragedy and forget it for the sake of God’s pleasure.”
