Myanmar says Obama congratulates govt on 'free and fair' poll

Foreign election observers have broadly endorsed Sunday's poll results

: Myanmar said Thursday that US President Barack Obama called his counterpart Thein Sein on Thursday to congratulate him on holding a \"free and fair\" election, which Aung San Suu Kyi's party is on the precipice of winning.

Obama \"called President Thein Sein this morning to congratulate him and the government for successfully holding a historic free and fair general election,\" Information Minister Ye Htut said on his official Facebook page.
