London

: Jihadi John, the Islamic State terrorist who became famous for appearing in a number of beheading videos, was evaporated with a clean hit as he got into a car near the iconic clock tower in the de facto ISIS capital of Raqqa.

According to a report in DailyMail, the Pentagon officials are 99 per cent sure that Jihadi John aka Mohammed Emwazi, 27, was killed in the drone strike. \"He walked out of a building and got in the car. We struck it right after with zero collateral damage,' the report quoted a counter-terrorism official as saying, and aded that ''The vehicle was on fire. It was a 100 per cent flawless, direct hit.''

The drone that got Emwazi is thought to have taken off form the Incirilik airbase in southern Turkey, just outside Adana and around 30 miles from the Syrian border. It was controlled from the Creech Air Force base, 7,000 miles away in Nevada.

Pentagon official Colonel Steven Warren said that though the confirmation would take time, they were fairly certain that the killed Jihadi was Emwazi and that the driver was also killed during the attack. Colonel Warren said, ‘‘we know for a fact that the weapons system hit its intended target, and that the personnel who were on the receiving end of that weapons system were in fact killed.\"

But the ISIS have come out claiming that Emwazi has survived the attack with eyewitness accoutns claiming that he was taken to a hospital badly injured. Jihadi John has been the subject of an internaitonal manhunt for over an year after he appeared in the first of his chilling beheading video last August.

The drone attack came after persistent surveilance by the authorities, and was on him for most of the day yesrterday. He came out ID'd and engaged and was attacked immediately after he got into the car.
