The Samajwadi Party is all set to launch its election campaign from October 5, which also happens to be the first day of the auspicious Navratri period. The first rally for the election campaign will be held in Mainpuri on October 5 and will be addressed by Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. The schedule for the remaining rallies is being finalised. “The Mainpuri rally will be addressed by Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav along with some other senior leaders. The rally will be held in Nainar, which is about 10 kms from the district headquarters. The rallies are being planned in a manner that they can be clubbed with important events like distribution of laptops and the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana,” said a party functionary. Mainpuri is the parliamentary constituency of Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and shares its borders with Etawah, the home district of the Yadavs, and Kannauj, the parliamentary constituency of Dimple Yadav, wife of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. According to party sources, these rallies were scheduled to begin after October 15 but recent incidents like Muzaffarnagar riots have made the party prepone the rallies. “Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav feels that there is an urgent need to explain the situation to the people about the Muzaffarnagar riots, the prompt action taken by the state government and also the relief and rehabilitation measures initiated by us. He will tell the people how certain forces (read BJP) are trying to destabilise the government and derail the development work started by Mr Akhilesh Yadav,” the party functionary explained.
