With the Bihar elections appearing to be going down to the wire, both rival factions, the BJP and Grand Secular Alliance, on Friday rushed to the Election Commission accusing each other of trying to polarise voters on communal lines.

Both accused each others’ leaders of using inflammatory remarks while campaigning. Enraged over BJP president Amit Shah’s “fireworks in Pakistan” remark, the Grand Alliance demanded that his entry into Bihar should be banned while RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav called the BJP president “mad”.

The EC, meanwhile, on Friday barred the publication of two controversial advertisements printed by the BJP targeting Grand Alliance leaders.
