The much publicised gangrape video of a Pilibhit woman who has been missing since November last year, has turned out to be a much older clip and does not feature the woman in question.

The woman, who went missing on November 23, has been found to be living with her paramour in Chandigarh. Pilibhit SP Jawahar said that the woman had been in a relationship with a man before marriage and she continued her affair even after marriage. She has been traced to Chandigarh by the Special Task Force and a team is bringing her back to Pilibhit for further investigations.

According to earlier reports, the woman, aged about 30 years and a mother of two, was married to a man in Badaun and allegedly went missing while she was on her way to Badaun from Bareilly. She was accompanied by her younger daughter when she left for Badaun.

“Actually, the woman took a bus to Chandigarh instead and has been living there ever since. She told her family that she had boarded the bus to Pilibhit and this was the last contact she made with her family. On the way, she threw away her mobile phone which was later recovered by the police”, the SP said.

The woman’s father approached the police first on November 24 when she did not reach Badaun. Since her mobile phone was unreachable, the family presumed that she had been kidnapped. On January 3, the woman’s brother received a video clip on WhatsApp which showed a woman being gang raped. Presuming the victim to be his sister, the man and his father lodged a fresh complaint with the police.

The video clip went viral on the social media sparking a major controversy.
