Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi here on Friday accused PM Narendra Modi of attacking him personally in the Lok Sabha while asserting that people of Assam would respond to it by packing the BJP up in the ensuing Assembly polls in Assam like in Bihar. In an obvious reference to Mr Modi’s jibe in the Parliament in which he said some people grow in age but not in understanding and claimed that the Opposition suffers from an “inferiority complex”, Mr Gandhi said at an election rally in Silchar, “Launch personal attacks at me as much as you want and enjoy it but do answer four of my questions.”
In the same breath Mr Gandhi referred to his queries about employment generated by Make in India and the scheme brought by the government to unearth black money, which he called “fair and lovely”, among others.
He said, “In his over one hour and 15 minute speech in the Parliament, he launched personal attacks at me. He narrated quotes of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. But did not answer a single question I had asked him. I respect him. He is the country’s PM.” Referring to the coalition of BJP with regional political parties in Assam, Mr Gandhi said, “It is an attempt to consolidate Hindu votes. The coalition of the Opposition will destroy the brotherhood and progress which the state has witnessed during the 15-year-old rule of Congress in Assam.”
Mr Gandhi, who is on his third visit of Assam in the run up to the Assembly polls, said, “The Prime Minister was giving false promises to the nation. He has failed to keep his promises.” Mr Gandhi, who also spoke to media, said, “Mr Modi went to Bihar 30 times, he made many promises but people of Bihar asked him to first fulfill the promises he made earlier but he was sent back to Delhi.” Mr Gandhi warned, “Now he will come to Assam but he will be sent back to Delhi; Congress is going to win 2016 Assembly elections in Assam.”
Mr Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting and join a foot march at Nagaon on Saturday.”
