Pulses’ price beginning to fall now, claims government

The government has claimed that the prices of pulses have begun coming down in a definite manner after relentless raids against the hoarders in many states.

The government has claimed that the prices of pulses have begun coming down in a definite manner after relentless raids against the hoarders in many states. The government stated that prices of tur dal, which had gone over the roof, have shown a decline of Rs 200 per quintal.

“Following concerted efforts made by the government, prices of pulses have continued to show declining trends both in wholesale and retail markets. There has been a decline of more than Rs 2,400 per qtl. in wholesale market in the prices of tur dal and the same is reflected in the retail prices also,” the ministry of consumer affairs said on Friday.

The Centre stated that apart from states like Gujarat, Jharkhand, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand, some more like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have also held meetings with wholesalers to make available pulses in the retail market at reasonable price.

“States like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are also distributing pulses at subsided rates through the public distribution system,” the ministry added in the statement.

The government stated that 10,903 de-hoarding operations raids have been conducted and 1,24,209 MT pulses have been seized across the states.
