Patna: Sparks continue to fly among constituents of the grand secular alliance in Bihar as JD(U) on Sunday issued a stern warning and asked the RJD to ensure that no more statements are made against Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.

The JD(U) also hinted that “situation may go out of hand if RJD leaders are not controlled”.

Speaking to reporters in Patna, JD(U) state president Bashistha Narain Singh said that “the party cannot tolerate this and RJD must stop their leaders from making statements against the chief minister. This is definitely not a good sign”.

On Saturday, senior RJD leader Bhai Virendra had criticised Nitish Kumar for his decision to support NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. He had said that Mr Kumar’s divergent stand on the presidential poll has weakened the Opposition party’s unity

“Mr Kumar was playing in the lap of RSS and now his game plan has been exposed before the people of the state,” the senior RJD leader had said on Saturday.

Speaking to this newspaper on the whole controversy, senior JD(U) leader Sanjay Singh said, “Signs are not positive as the RJD, which is one of the constituents of the grand secular alliance, has been constantly airing statements against Mr Kumar”.

Mr Singh said that the party had already raised the issue earlier but the top leadership in the RJD downplayed the controversy and no action against leaders were taken.
