New Delhi: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy Monday said that investigative agencies have been provided information about 21 undisclosed foreign bank accounts of former finance minister P. Chidambaram’s son Karthi or his companies. Mr Swamy told reporters that “appropriate action was not being taken”.

He also criticised the finance ministry, saying that it did not appear to be keen to pursue the matter.

He said there were irregularities in clearances given to the Aircel-Maxis deal during P. Chidambaram’s tenure as finance minister.

“Karti in an election affidavit said he doesn’t have a single foreign bank account. But I am producing a list of his offshore interests,” the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said.

“I am sending all these copies to the Prime Minister. I want that he orders an inquiry into it. Our party’s credibility needs to be protected,” Mr Swamy said.

Mr Karthi denied the allegations, calling them “outrageous”.  He said all his “assets are duly reflected in I-T (income-tax) filings”.

Mr Karthi also responded to Mr Swamy’s allegations on Twitter, minutes after the press conference.  Mr Swamy said there is no “political sanction” to act against Mr Karthi even after three summons by the Enforcement Directorate.

“Some outrageous claims have been made about me. My filings are up to date n completely in compliance with regulatory/statutory requirements,” Mr Karthi tweeted.

“My family’s n my assets are duly reflected in our IT filings. My companies have made all declarations as required by statutory requirements,” he added.
