Bhopal: All eyes are on the two Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, who, along with a Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator and four Independents, have provided outside support to the “minority” Kamal Nath government, in the wake of Tuesday’s development in Rajasthan in which all six BSP lawmakers joined the ruling Congress there.

The two BSP MLAs of MP Wednesday chose to stay away from media, lending credence to reports that the party leadership had initiated the move to shield them from being poached by the ruling Congress in the state following the Rajasthan development.

“I have been asked not to speak to the media,” BSP legislator Ram Bai said Wednesday while refusing to commit that there would be no repetition of the Rajasthan episode in MP.

The other BSP legislator in MP, Sanjeev Kushwaha, has been incommunicado ever since six party MLAs in Rajasthan joined the ruling Congress there. “The Madhya Pradesh situation is different from that in Rajasthan. Two BSP MLAs in MP enjoy unbridled po-wer by extending outside support to the Kamal Nath government. Still though, I do not rule out the possibility of the two party legislators joining the Congress in MP,” a close aide of Mr Kushwaha indicated.

Chief minister Kamal Nath is said to be keen on all seven MLAs who provided outside support to his government joining the Congress to preempt any bid by the BJP to woo them to topple his government.
