SP wins 4 out of 5 in Allahabad University polls

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party, on Sunday, had a reason to smile almost seven months after it faced a humiliating defeat in the UP Assembly elections. The student wing of SP won four of the five seats in the Allahabad University student union election, the results of which were declared on Saturday night. 

SP president Akhilesh Yadav said that the victory would unfold a new chapter in the state. While the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) won the president, vice 
president, joint secretary and cultural secretary posts in the student’s body of the university, the ABVP could win only the general secretary post. Avinash Kumar 
Yadav of the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, who was elected to the precedent’s post, beat his nearest opponent Mrityunjay Rao, an Independent candidate, by 552 votes. 

For the V-P’s post, Chandrasekhar Chaudhary beat ABVP candidate Shivam Kumar Tiwari by 72 votes.
