New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday appointed Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor as the chairman of the newly-constituted All-India Professional Congress while Arbind Singh has been appointed as the Chairman of the All-India Unorganised Workers Congress.

Speaking to reporters after his appointment, Mr Tharoor said, “The All-India Professionals Congress is to function as a decentralised, democratic platform. We will have City or town level chapters initially as the basic building block. Each of these chapters will be set up through the Web — . Anybody can log on and they only have to really confirm that they are practising a profession and are tax-payers with a PAN Number.”

“The reason we insist on is that this is not one more avenue for the full time politician; it is a new avenue for people who for their most part are not very active in politics,” he added.

The Congress also divested Mr Digvijaya Singh of the charge of Telangana and appointed former MP and currently secretary AICC R.C. Khuntia as general secretary AICC as incharge of Telangana. Satish Jarkiholi has been appointed the secretary incharge of Telangana while Mr Singh continues as the incharge of Andhra Pradesh.
