Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the need to change one’s mindset towards differently-abled people.
“What I want to do is change the mindset about differently-abled people. When I say let us use the word divyang instead of viklang, it is about this change,” he said while addressing a function where he distributed whe-elchairs, electronic hearing aids and skill certificates to differently-abled people in Varanasi Friday.
The PM said his political rivals wanted to see him getting into one controversy or the other but his focus remained firm on solving the problems of the people. “We will do everything possible where rules and the system have to be changed. I recalled so many touching experiences with divyang brothers and sisters when I was chief minister. As a society we have to care for all those who are divyangs. I just met a divyang child, Rahul, here and I was amazed how he operated the computer. Let us not think what is lacking in a person, let us see which extraordinary quality he possesses,” Mr Modi said.
He benefits of several schemes do not reach the target because of middlemen. Camps like these eliminate the role of middlemen, he said. “Maine nut-bolt kas diye hain to kuchh logon ko taqleef ho rahi hai,” he said.
He said that his government was constantly thinking about how development can reach the poor and how their lives can change for the better.
“Our utmost concern is to take the benefits of development to the poor and needy people of the country,” he stated.
The function on Friday where the PM distributed aids to differently-abled persons is said to be the largest in terms of number and the Union ministry for social justice and empowerment has reportedly written to the Guinness World Records to take note of the event.
