A PIL was filed before the Calcutta HC on Tuesday praying for government’s immediate intervention for the restoration of normalcy in the closed and ailing tea gardens, which have in the past few weeks witnessed deaths of dozens of jobless workers. While the PIL was being filed in Kolkata in north Bengal, two more workers died in Bagrakote and Redbank tea gardens on Tuesday. Even governor Keshari Nath Tripathi voiced his concern over the situation in closed tea gardens.
Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum and Human Life Development and Research Centre filed the PIL before a bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur.
