Nitish loyalist unanimously elected new Bihar Speaker

Leaders and MLAs across the political spectrum congratulated JD(U) senior leader and MLA Vijay Kumar Chaudhary after he was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the Bihar Assembly on Wednesday.

Mr Chaudhary, a five time MLA is chief minister Nitish Kumar’s loyalist and was often termed as “political advisor to CM” by opponents in Bihar. According to protem Speaker Sadanand Singh “Mr Chaudhary was elected unanimously by the legislators as no one else filed nomination for the post”.

The newly elected Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary, according to sources, was earlier being considered for an important Cabinet post but his name was replaced at the last minute on the advice of campaign strategist Prashant Kishore. Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Yadav had asked him to “file his nomination for the post of Assembly Speaker” during a meeting.
